Working on Campus or Remotely — Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Updated Aril 1, 2020, 2:10 p.m.

Please visit the UM System’s website for information for supervisors and employees on working through COVID-19.

With temporary authority granted by the UM Board of Curators, President Mun Choi has authorized a number of measures to temporarily enhance leave policies for employees unable to work through telework options.

Most of the tools you use everyday are easily accessed online. PeopleSoft (includes MyHR and Finance), Box, Webmail, Email, Cherwell, Canvas and Jabber all are readily accessible. These tools do not require Virtual Private Networking (VPN) connection, but it is recommended to connect securely through a VPN if you are working and using a public, unsecured wireless network.

Most of the technology resources available to our faculty, staff and students do not require a VPN. However, some on-campus IT resources require the use of Virtual Private Networking (VPN), a tool that provides encryption between your computer and campus resources. All university laptops come with the Cisco VPN client installed. If you are using your personally owned computer, please contact your IT support team for instructions about downloading the VPN client.

The campus resources that require a VPN when working off campus include:

  • Remote Desktop Access to workstations that remain on campus
  • Access to Network File Shares/Network Drives
  • Unified Communications Telephone Self Care (Set up call forwarding and managing voicemail)
  • Some departments have specialized systems that need VPN

Student Employees

Supervisors are encouraged to provide telework options to student employees whose job duties can be performed remotely without disrupting operations to continue pay. Supervisors may offer alternate job duties or work opportunities in other departments, if there are shared staffing needs. If the alternative work or telework options are not feasible, and the student employee is available for either of these work options, the student employee may report administrative leave on their time record, based on their normal rate of compensation and normal schedule. These pay practices are effective March 23 at 12:00 a.m. through April 12 at 11:59 p.m.

For further guidance, please reach out to your departmental supervisor.

The MU Career Center is actively connecting with employers on and off campus to identify immediate employment needs. Positions will be posted on HireMizzouTigers.com. The MU Career Center website provides information to connect with a Career Specialist via Zoom.

Mizzou has established a process by which Federal Work Study students may continue to receive their paychecks. This is based on recent federal Department of Education regulatory changes. To ensure you can continue to receive payment for your Work Study job, you must contact your supervisor to discuss your situation. These pay practices are effective March 23 at 12:00 a.m. through April 12 at 11:59 p.m.

Guidance regarding Federal Work Study was issued to supervisors on March 26, 2020. If you inquired to your supervisor on or before March 26, please check back with your supervisor for guidance. If you cannot reach your supervisor, contact your department for whom you work. If you cannot contact your department, you can send an email to Student Financial Aid at MizzouSFA@missouri.edu. Please note that the Student Financial Aid office is only accepting emails as of March 26 due to issues with telephone capabilities, so we are experiencing high email volume. We will respond as soon as possible.
