Reports of gunshots fired near 9th and Elm Streets

Police have determined that there is no longer an ongoing threat to campus. The Columbia Police Department has taken over the investigation of the case.

Police continue investigating the an incident where shots were reportedly fired at Ninth and Elm streets. The public is urged to stay away from the area as police are still searching for one subject believed to be involved in the incident.

The individual is described as a white male, wearing a tan shirt and khaki pants. He has a beard and is said to be “older than college age.” More updates to follow.

Police have detained two subjects and continue seeking a third subject. The subject’s description remains the same: white male wearing a plaid shirt and a white hat. Police continue to ask the public to stay away from Ninth and Elm streets. Additional updates will follow.

Police identified the subject of interest as a white male, wearing a plaid shirt and a white hat. The subject exited a white Mercedes near Ninth and Elm streets. One shot was heard. Police ask that the public stay away from the area. Officers are continuing to investigate. More updates will follow.
