At approximately 3:55 a.m., Saturday March 5, the University Police (MUPD) received a report of an attempted sexual assault in the area of Mumford Hall, which is close to the intersection of Hitt Street and University Avenue.

The female victim was walking on the sidewalk on University Avenue when she was approached from behind by a male subject unknown to her.

Following a brief conversation, the suspect grabbed her and forced her to the ground as she struggled with him. He attempted to sexually assault the victim but she was able to fight him off of her and called 911 from her cell phone. The suspect ran and was last seen in the area of the Dumas Apartments, which are near Hitt Street and University Avenue. Columbia Police Officers and University of Missouri Police Officers responded immediately, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as:

  • white male, early 20s;
  • 5’ 7” to 5’ 9”, stocky build;
  • short dark brown hair, scruffy beard, round face;
  • wearing a long sleeve red plaid shirt and blue jeans
