Ambulance stolen near campus

5:10 p.m.
Sean M. Smith, the subject wanted in a stolen ambulance, is in custody. He was taken into custody at the Midway Travel Plaza off Interstate 70 and Highway 40. MU officials have cleared the MU Alert.

Around 4 p.m., the University of Missouri Police Department received a report that a white man in his 40s had stolen an ambulance and abandoned it near Ashland Road. The man was later identified as Sean M. Smith, and a picture was released of the subject.

The Columbia Police Department’s K9 unit assisted in the search.

Sean M. Smith, the subject wanted in connection with a stolen ambulance, is in custody at Midway Travel Plaza located at Interstate 70 and Highway 40. ALL CLEAR.

4:44 p.m.
Police continue to look for Sean M. Smith, 40, wanted in connection with a stolen ambulance. He is last known to be on foot. The Columbia Police Department’s K9 unit is assisting in the search.

The suspect was identified as Sean M. Smith, 40 years old.

The ambulance was located in the Ashland Road area. It was abandoned. Police believe the suspect is on foot. He may have a band-aid on his left ear. Description of suspect remains the same: a white male in his 40s, is wearing blue jeans, a black jacket, and gray shoes.

4:00 p.m.

MU Police received a report of a stolen ambulance. The suspect, a white male in his 40s, is wearing blue jeans, a black jacket, and gray shoes. He was last seen in the Ashland Road area.
